For my video, I wanted to represent and speak about the journey that I’ve been on and the pathway that the world assumes leads to success. I am lucky to have seen the places I have and experienced the things I have in my life. I hadn’t had an opportunity to filter through the footage from my travels. In recent light of the current events, I have been redefining the path that I want to take and what that means to me. I think it was not only important but essential to speak of the changes that I am making, some which deter from the path laid out for me by society. I started the video with footage from one of my last days in Italy. The footage features me walking down my street and eventually arriving home. The footage is a memory I hold dear but it is also one of the most cinematic things I’ve ever filmed. This footage is a true central point for the video. Next, I compiled some of my favorite footage from my recent travels. As the video continues music becomes an element and levels out not only the message I am trying to convey but the footage. The music is key as it fluctuates with the footage seen. I then cut together the footage so that it aligns best to what I was speaking about. I ended up having to scale large portions of the video so that the black bars aren’t as obvious. The video wraps up by going back to that original footage of me walking and the music slowly fades out and for the last bit of the video the audio of the speech fades out and you hear only the sound of me walking the rain on the cobblestone and those passing by. This was done purposefully as I wanted the ending to be slightly elusive so that it leaves those who watch it thinking about their pathways and how they define success.

I have been fortunate enough to live in some of the most amazing places and immerse myself in the culture and people. I loved living abroad, and my seven months of travel inspired me to not only want to live abroad but to work abroad. Due to these travels, I’ve made some of the most amazing friendships that scatter a few continents. The last few weeks have seemingly changed all of our lives and will continue to alter our realities. To see the effect that COVID-19 has had on the world is devastating. The main purpose of this blog was to discuss travel, fashion, and my journey into the fashion industry. It is hard for it to serve that purpose when all of these areas are at risk. There is widespread panic happening and support is needed globally. I decided that the best thing for my journey would be to lean on my community, to hear their outlooks and feelings, to support each other through this. I started with my friends here at Kent State and listened to their emotions. There are so many Kent State students, especially the graduating class, who feel completely discouraged and in shock. Many have worked so hard only to be entering into a job field that isn’t there. I along with another friend planned to begin a career in Italy, but the fashion industry in Italy, and most of the world, will be down till 2021. This onset a slew of concerns and has left us grasping for new options. Those at Kent who arent graduating are just trying to find a new routine and gain some sense of understanding. One friend of mine said, ” It literally closed everything down, it affected everything possible.Jobs, education, we cant even stay in dorms or leave the country. We stopped learning.” For those that I know internationally things are more dire and they have had to change very aspect of their lives. Despite this and the dfrastic changes seen there is a message to have compassion, empathy, and to show care toward others. My friend in South Korea said something really powerful and compassion is what we need most right now. She said,” It is not only my country that struggles with this problem. I hope we could get through this time without hatred against specifc races. Everybody knows this situation was not on purpose, we cannot blame anybody”.
When it comes to this class I have found that I lack some motivation when it comes to my work. Due to this observation, I wanted to do something to jumpstart some concepts for a friend who has created her own organization of sorts. So for this project I wanted to push myself to create something I could show in my portfolio. This Logo was created for her collaborative styling company called Styling Addict. The company is built for the purpose of empowering women while also creating necessary portfolio work in the areas of styling, modeling, creative directing, coordinator, makeup artist, and photographer. The team is comprised of women who seek to gain experience from said areas. When generating concepts for this logo I was informed that a crest and banner were two aspects that should be utilized. Originally the design included sketches of women of different sizes and colors surrounding the logo. Upon talking to the owner she suggested we wait to add that aspect as she didn’t have a clear concept for the details in creating said women. My main source of inspiration for this logo was the crest Beyonce created for “Beychella”. I really liked the shape and thought it would suit the concept well. For the banner, I simply looked at a list of bannered crests on google and drew what I felt suited the crest best. To get the shape of the crest I traced one side and reflected it and joined the two together. I played around with different setting options and their sizing and used a special type tool to add the brand name following the shape of the crest. I also took creative liberty to play the brand’s message inside of the banner to increase topic awareness. This is an ongoing project and I am excited to further edit this logo according to the company’s wants.
For this assignment I’ve decided to create a logo for a friends business. This business is fashion focused which relates to one of the purposes of this blog. The criteria that she requested be included in the logo is a crest with SA, and a banner across the crest with her brand name, Styling Addict. As the brand is focused on creating an inclusive space for women she requested that women of all sizes and color be sketched around the logo.
The inspiration behind this collage is similar to that of this blog. A journal of sorts to chronicle my life and travels while also focusing on art and perspective. The images shown in this collage have all been taken within the last few months and document not only my travels but shows the emotions I experienced. The first image which is the background for this photo was taken in Paris at Place de Vosges, a picturesque park. I felt as if I was in my best life while in Paris and I wanted that feeling to carry over to this collage. Because of this I also included a back image of a Paris street in the Marais neighborhood. The front duplicated photo is from my Pisa, Italy. I purposefully left the blue between my hair to connect with the blue sky. The last photo is a peek at a bench in Florence, Italy that not only had designs etched into it but love notes. When it came to placement I knew that duality was something I wanted to highlight. This is because I began my time abroad as one person and emerged as a different person in the end. I wanted that duality to be the main aspect of the collage, which is why I implemented it twice. Duality is also shown with an additional circle cut out of the leaves and the trees. All the cutouts in the picture are circular and are similar to the main photos in color. I wanted this collage to look similar to a pattern that you would make in photoshop, it reminds me of camouflage. I could say that I was inspired by a pattern that I created for a line that was altered from WGSN(https://www.wgsn.com/library/results/435e1cf6777afda44952d66be5808676/camouflage). Unfortunately, I can no longer find the original pattern but below is the pattern that I created inspired by the images I found on WGSN.

All the cutouts in the picture are circular and balance the collage. I wanted this collage to look similar to a pattern that you would make in photoshop, it reminds me of camouflage. I could say that I was inspired by a pattern that I created for a line that I altered from WGSN. Unfortunately, I can no longer find the original pattern but below is the pattern that I created inspired by the images I found on WGSN. When I decided to revise the photo, I knew that I didn’t want to stray too much from my original concept, but simply expound upon it. The first thing I did was to straighten the image of the street in Paris as suggested in my critiques. I also rotated the tree cutout more to try to show the differences. I attempted to find more photos of the bench but was unsuccessful. Due to this, I rotated it so that more text was visible. Next, I added a photo of Piazzale Michelangelo which is one of the only places in Florence that you can see the whole city. This image is at sunset and includes the replica of David. When I took this picture, on my last day in Italy, I captioned it solemn because that is the only emotion I could identify at the time. I found that this balanced the blue tones shown in other areas of the photo. Overall, I am happy with the result of the photo and love the message it conveys.
